“Watch What-If” is a special column on aBlogtoRead.com that asks the playful question “what if an iconic watch you know and love was offered in a different style?” The idea embraces a good timepiece’s core design and has fun by offering new colors and material concepts to stimulate your senses. These ideas may be provocative, artistic, or just plain silly. This is about fun, Photoshop, and the celebration of wrist watch design and experimentation. The original design we work off will always be at the bottom of the article. Ideas and comments are more than welcome. Enough response may even lead to a round two of design. You are also encouraged to suggest watches that make it into the Watch What-If section here on aBlogtoRead.com.
Watch What-Iffed: Rolex Submariner Ref 116610
Given how well the Rolex Submariner goes with most any outfit it’s sometimes easy to forget it’s a critical dive watch. The dial is completely classic (albeit a design that’s ubiquitous( after having been duplicated for decades), and it’s very legible. These newer Rolex watches make use of blue-colored, versus green luminant which is a nice touch that other brands have followed.Around the dial is that the rotating diver’s bezel with Rolex’s Cerachrom black porcelain bezel insert. The previous generation Rolex Submariner nevertheless used aluminum bezel inserts, and in comparison to the more modern ceramic ones, they are almost barbaric. Flat and easy to scratch aluminum bezel inserts should not be found in anything but cheap watches these days. Some folks, of course, have a fondness for the older aluminum-style bezel (or perhaps a number of the plastic ones, from a really long time ago). Additionally, sorry people, in 30 years that the Cerachrom bezel isn’t going to “patina.” It will stay the exact same glossy black color it’s when you buy it.Inside that the Rolex Submariner 114060 is your completely in-house made quality 3130 automatic.
